Elder Care Coordinator – 5 Benefits

woman interviewing patientAn elder care coordinator can take a huge burden off your shoulders. As an adult child caring for a parent who is experiencing physical or mental decline, you are likely experiencing a long list of difficulties yourself. These could include:

– Trying to balance your career and family life with offering adequate senior care for your parent
– Knowing how to keep your parent safe in their home
– Finding the right in-home care or a proper senior care community

And as a result of all the above challenges and more, you are growing more and more exhausted as the days go on—you may even find yourself becoming physically ill. That said, it’s time you heard about an existing option that can lift the weight of the world off of your shoulders. This is the role of an elder care coordinator.

What Can an Elder Care Coordinator Do for You?

Simply put, the goal of a good elder care coordinator is to provide your aging parent with the highest quality of life possible while taking the stress off of you. They can achieve this goal by:

·Helping identify your parent’s primary needs—This could include any problems they may be experiencing with current senior care. Once you know which of your parent’s needs are most important, then you will know what concerns to best focus on.

·Coordinating with current medical providers—Trying to juggle physicians, therapists, pharmaceuticals and everything else that goes along with caring for your senior parent is not easy. An elder care coordinator can make all those phone calls and arrange those meetings for you.

·Assisting in finding the right senior care community or home health aide for your parent—The options for in-home care and senior living facilities are numerous. To choose the right one, you must perform careful research to ensure a good fit for your parent. An elder care coordinator already has the knowledge you need and can present it to you in order to help you make the right choice.

·Monitoring your parents ongoing treatments and condition—Once your parent is in the right community, you want someone to keep an eye out and make sure they are being properly cared for. With all the horror stories of patient mishandling in nursing homes, you need an elder care coordinator experienced in spotting improper treatment to act as your eyes and ears.

·Providing you with education, support, and advocacy—More than anything, an elder care coordinator can provide you the knowledge you need to make sure your parent is taken care of. In the event that something goes wrong, they can supply you with the support and advocacy you need to make things right.

Providing senior care for your aging parent is not easy. But you don’t have to face it alone. Find an elder care coordinator to orchestrate the details of your parent’s care today!
